Curriculum/Lesson Planning

The philosophy behind Ms. Mo's preschool curriculum is that young children learn best by playing and by creating fun within their environment. It requires active thinking and experimenting to find out how things work and to learn firsthand about the world we live in. Our classroom is designed for play with 11 stations; Library/Writing, Dramatic Play, Music, Science and Sensory, Creative Art, Math & Manipulatives, Health & Fitness, Building Blocks & Table Top Games, Cooking, and Technology.

Ms. Mo's belief is that if we incorporate a piece of each educational theory about quality preschool and build a bridge between the different theories and best practices for children, we can meet the needs of every child.  In our classroom, you will find a Montessori environment, an Amelia teacher, and a Vygotsky curriculum.

The goals of our curriculum are to help children become enthusiastic learners through quality pretend and real play. This means encouraging children to be active and creative explorers who are not afraid to try out their ideas and to think their own thoughts. Part of our curriculum is teacher planned and directed in order to help children become independent, self-confident, inquisitive learners. We allow them to learn at their own pace and in the ways that are best for them.  Teacher-directed lesson plans help them with good habits and attitudes, particularly a positive sense of themselves, which will make a big difference all throughout their life.  We want them to be prepared for the Kindergarten environment.

Our classroom uses the "Creative Curriculum" designed by Teaching Strategies ® as our foundation and the daily lesson plans are developed according to the child's individual interests and skill levels.  We write the lesson plans to gear the children towards becoming confident learners and to acquire learning skills such as the ability to solve problems, ask questions, and use words to describe their ideas, observations, and feelings. This curriculum focuses on pride and self confidence, developing independence and self-control, and having a positive attitude toward learning and towards life.  The activities we plan for children, the way we organize the environment, select toys and materials, plan the daily schedule, and talk with the children, are all designed to accomplish the goals of our curriculum so that we can give your child a successful start in school.

We have a comprehensive, research-based assessment system that supports effective teaching for children’s development and learning. We perform daily observations, weekly assessments, and include lots of parent communication, involvement, and decision making. We focus on what matters most for your child's success.

(Please refer to the class schedule for each enrichment program's designated day.)

These Classes Are Included in Your  Monthly Tuition

Our Tumbling and Gymnastics program is designed to help your child develop balance and coordination, work as a team player, and gain strong movement capabilities. From body rolling, balance beams, spring boards, and bars; your child will gain a positive insight into the world of gymnastics. Ms. Mo has been teaching gymnastics for 15 years to preschool children in the Puget Sound area.

Our Cooking program gives children yummy opportunities to participate in fun, developmentally appropriate cooking experiences. They will learn about recipes, ingredients, cooking vocabulary, and the importance of a healthy diet. The curriculum includes lessons on appropriate portion sizing, making good food choices, and learning heart-healthy recipes. Ms. Mo is a Certified Children's Nutrition Specialist.

Our Math and Reading program is designed to teach important mathematics concepts; such as comparisons, measurement, and probability. Your child will learn about length, height, and weight; as well as shapes and solids. He/She will learn how to add, subtract, and count money. Math is everywhere in life - giving your child every advantage now will add up to success later in life. When math is made fun, all children want to learn.

Our Fitness/Health class is designed for all ages. This non-stop, action packed class helps children understand what it means to be healthy and fit. From running and jumping to bouncing balls and breathing, your child will be active, getting fit, and having fun learning stretching exercises, yoga, aerobics, and numerous sporting activities; golf being one of the favorites... I will introduce your children to the "Brain Gym" and much more. Our families are welcome and encouraged to join in on the fun. Ms. Mo just happens to be a Certified Children' Exercise Instructor.

Our Music and Movement program offers your child early exposure to help with thinking, reasoning, creating, and expressing their minds and bodies. Children will laugh and learn about rhythm, vocal melodies, and a variety of musical genres and instruments, which can lower stress and advance memory. Your child will learn basic dance steps from all genres. Learning never sounded so good!

Our Language and Literacy program enriches your child with the turn of every new page and is designed to set your child up for advanced success with literacy through phonics, the study of letters and sounds. Reader books, games, and activity cards help your child understand the basics of vowels and blending syllables; giving them confidence and command of language. Reading enriches your child's learning about language by introducing vowels, common words, and creative writing. Self made books and writing activities help to improve literacy skills. The storytelling and puppet plays create magical and memorable learning experience! We are hoping for the King County Library system to be a part of our curriculum very soon with visits that are fun and interactive.  The children can check out books from the mobile library van.

Our Science program is an exciting hands-on enrichment class that introduces children to the wonders of science in a fun and highly imaginative environment. Your child will have fun learning about the science of wind and water, dinosaurs, if flies have eyes, and everything else under our sun.  Because we are an eco-friendly classroom, your child will learn all about being green with Ali the Alligator.

Our Technology studies consist of digital technologies that provide one more outlet for children to demonstrate their creativity and learning.  With a teacher's intentional facilitation, digital technology can extend opportunities for learning and development; helping to meet individual needs and preparation for the real world.  Although our screen time is limited, we find educational materials to be an extension of our curriculum and not a replacement. Learning the keyboard, use of a mouse, and the general environment of a computer helps keep your child up to date in this high tech world.
